Prime Lenses

They are lenses with a fixed focal length, focusing is done by moving the camera closer and further away from the object. The photo quality and sharpness obtained with zoom lenses, i.e. lenses such as 18-55, 70-200, are lower than prime lenses. The reason for this is that more than one lens inside the zoom lens moves and deteriorates the image quality. In prime lenses, that is, fixed focal length lenses, the lenses are fixed and optimized for the most ideal image quality.

50mm prime lenses are the most preferred in food photography because they are small, light, sharp, have high depth of field, have the angle closest to the human eye and have minimum perspective distortion.

Medium Zoom Lenses

They are lenses whose focal lengths are not fixed, and within the capability of the lens, the user can zoom in on objects at different distances through added optical elements. As the number of optical elements increases, the rate at which light is transmitted to the sensor decreases. 24-70mm lenses are among the most preferred lenses by food photographers, as they allow you to shoot from different distances, are ideal for flatlay (bird's eye view) shots with the wide angle option, and allow you to take location shots.

Macro Lenses

Macro lenses use magnification ratios of 1:1 and above to reflect the actual size of the objects being shot on the digital sensor. Macro lenses have fixed focal lengths such as 90mm and 100mm. The distance at which your lens can focus on the subject is called focusing distance. One of the important features of macro lenses is that while normal lenses allow you to get closer to an object by 30-40 cm, macro lenses allow you to get closer to 1cm.  Thanks to macro lenses, you can carry the details of the food to the entire photo frame, and thanks to their high focal lengths, you can bring the details of the food to the background.
